Mission to Cancun, Quintana Roo

May 27-31, 2016

I went to serve providing dental care, haircuts, reading glasses, and sandals to the community located at Quintana Roo at the parish The Inmaculada. Father Fernando and Father Gregory Woodward LC were opening their parish for the first time. I was able to meet and care for the children and adults.

Manuel the sacristan and his wife Carina helped me organize all the activities during my three-day stay. It was a short mission but very fruitful.

There was a handicapped boy who fell on the street and broke his two front teeth. He came to see me and he needed to have extractions; I was by myself and I needed a dentist. Manual knew a dentist and I asked him to check and see if he could help the boy who was in a lot of pain. The dentist is retired but he offered his help and Manual took the boy to the clinic.

The boy lost his two front teeth. The next day a few more patients’ needed extractions and the doctor helped again and made the pain go away.

I wish I had the opportunity to meet the doctor, but my time was too short. There were good results that happened, the doctor offered a good discount moving forward to the people who needed dental care and could not afford paying full price.

101 people got dental care. 27 haircuts. 80 reading glasses. 100 children received a medallion and a holy card of the guardian angel for their first communion which will be held in the month of June. The children also received sandals and toys.

During their waiting to time to have their teeth cleaned the children and parents enjoyed playing with puzzles and coloring books. It was so joyful getting together and praying for peace during my days throughout the mission.

The Ruiz family who lives nearby the parish provided me with lunch, it was very convenient to have a short break and enjoy delicious Mexican food. They are a beautiful family and I felt very welcomed.

Thank you

to everyone who sponsored this mission to Mexico. All together we did touch many

people and we all together share a journey of hope. Thank you for your prayers and love.
