Mission to Cancun, Quintana Roo

May 26-30, 2017

This was the second year I returned to the parish of the Immaculate Conception to provide dental care and reading glasses to the parishioners. Father Fernando Rodriguez LC and father Gregory Woodward LC gave me the opportunity to come back.

At this time of the year young children are getting ready to receive the First Communion and Confirmation. This year they received a holy bookmark, the divine Mercy Chaplet, and a holy medal. A present for them on their special day.

Adults and children received dental care including an oral exam, dental clean and fluoride treatment. Dr Alejandro Morales Rodriguez helped at his dental clinic to take care of the extractions and restorations. His office is located a few blocks away from the parish.

I provided the oral exams, cleaning, and fluoride first. If patients needed treatment they went to his office the same day.

Caritas Quintana Roo provided transportation to take patients to Dr. Morales’ clinic.

Everything went very well. Caritas also provided clothes to those who needed them; and baby formula to the little ones.

90 people received reading glasses and lubricated eye drops to relieve their eye irritations from the hot climate. This was all very successful.

The children received a toy, a toothbrush, toothpaste and in some cases flip-flops. I love to see their smiles.

Thank you so much to the Colgate Company for providing the toothbrushes, and the 3M company for the fluoride and composite. There are many dental needs in this community.

The parish of the Immaculate Conception in Qunitana Roo, Mexico received a Mobile Dental Unit from Healthy Teeth Journey of Hope. It will be used to provide better dental care and love.

I will need to get a mobile dental unit and a chair to be able to continue providing dental care next year (2018). I hope to find some donors to realize this dream.

I broke my camera during this mission, so there were very few photos to share this time.

Sadly, Dr Alejandro Morales is leaving Quintana Roo at the end of this year, returning to Vera Cruz State.  An excellent doctor to work with. We will miss Dr Morales very much.

Thank you

God bless you all for your support and your prayers.
